[Late in the night--closer to morning, really, probably right around the same time the castle fire's becoming visible, Ray's clinic will be getting some unexpected visitors!! Specifically one (1) Lan Wangji, who's flown here as fast as he can while still in his semi-human form. He doesn't make his arrival a secret--he lands right out front, wings spread wide.

Lan Wangji himself is disheveled, but more-or-less unharmed, aside from some shallow cuts, scrapes and bruises. The real reason he's here is made obvious by the person in his arms, whom he's carrying with great care--trying his best not to touch any obvious wounds, of which there are QUITE A FEW. He's also missing his forehead ribbon, which is currently acting as a bandage and utterly ruined by now. It's fine.

[ HELLO, RAY. Hope you weren't sleeping.

Shinobu has been falling in and out of consciousness the entire flight over. Her clothes are streaked with blood and burnt in places. What can be seen most clearly from her place in Lan Wangji's arms is an arrow sticking out of her left arm and the bloody ribbon that's tied around her right calf.

Despite what the icon indicates, she's not alert when Lan Wangji lands. ]

to ray's credit, he appears caught off-guard for only a moment before he springs into action, gathering supplies.

as he does so, he speaks.]

What's the damage?

[THEY HAD A TIME.]

She was shot with arrows twice. Once in her arm [which he can see, obviously] and once in her leg. [No arrow in that one. Lan Wangji's wrapped his forehead ribbon around that wound.] She has been burned, and she has lost quite a bit of blood. She fainted on our way here.

[THAT'S A LOT OF WORDS FOR A LAN WANGJI but maybe it's just panic?]

Please tell me, where should I lay her down?

[ Shinobu stirs a little, and her eyes flutter open but barely.

She doesn't say anything as she tries to gain her bearings. Where is she...?

She lifts a hand, and Ray may be able to see it's covered in burn blisters. ]

Lay her on the bed—here.

[there's probably only one spare bed in ray's makeshift clinic—which he'll guide lan wangji over to—because at the end of the day, this is still just a part of the shrine senri let him (or rather, his false self) take over.

but burns and puncture wounds, then. he gets out what he needs, as he mentally prepares himself to use his onmyouji abilities as well. not his first instinct, but might as well make use of what he's got.]

Alright.

[Ray's a child, but Lan Wangji doesn't seem to care--he follows these orders immediately, being very careful not to jostle her too much. Oh yeah, and Lan Wangji has a lovely cut on his palm, that may or may not still be bleeding a little? But he barely seems to notice. HELP SHINOBU.

He steps back enough to give Ray room to work, but he's definitely still hovering, visibly worried.]

Is there anything I can do to assist you?

[ Shinobu is not a hypocrite and will be a good patient.

She won't move until Ray asks her to. ]

The worst is... the burns.

[ What about that arrow in her arm still? It's the burns that will cause her the most trouble in the coming days. ]

Get some cloth— [he gestures to where some is] —and wet it with cool water.

[i don't know if they have a well or sink or what around the shrine so you can make up whatever, pixi. either way, ray bemoans the lack of modern technology. hopefully shinobu doesn't need a blood transfusion.

[LET'S GO WITH A WELL and after grabbing a cloth, Lan Wangji heads out to do exactly that. He'll grab a few cloths--this Lan Wangji's never been to war, and isn't terribly involved in Shinobu's clinic, so his first-aid knowledge is fairly basic. For his sister, especially, he'd rather have too many supplies available than too few.

As soon as they're wet, he'll return, standing close enough that Ray can take them as he needs them. He won't speak again unless spoken to, not until Shinobu's patched up.]

[ She won't need a blood transfusion, but it'd be funny if she did.

Shinobu closes her eyes and tries to keep awake, but it seems her consciousness is fading again.

Her absolutely worst wound is her leg injury. A burning arrow pierced it, and she removed it forcefully. ]

[yeah, ray was a little concerned that one of the arrow wounds DID NOT STILL HAVE THE ARROW, which meant that either someone did something they shouldn't have or the arrow was very bad. or both.

anyway, please don't make jan look up medical procedures. through both some onmyouji healing and conventional medicine, ray does the best he can in patching shinobu up—which, all things considered, is pretty good. he's used to working with minimal supplies.]

So what the hell happened?

[JAN your RESEARCH

No okay THANK GOODNESS FOR RAY, truly. Lan Wangji would be in a much worse state himself if he hadn't already known there was someone else around who could be trusted to get his sister patched up. It's not perfect, but this is Meiji Japan and they're demons, they'll deal with it.]

We set out to investigate the rumors surrounding the castle. The spirits within had reason to distrust our presence. One assumed we were there to cause harm.

[ hello, ray... the cat might be familiar, given he sort of just bums around all shrines indiscriminately, but tsukasa typically isn't dragging a leg. or bleeding. or coughing every so often.

he was at least vaguely yeeted i mean, dropped off by ray's clinic, and he's managed to get here with no small amounts of reassurance to shinobu that he'll be fine - and he will be!




or he could gently just collapse outside of the door instead, meowing pitifully. this will not be the first or last time this week he does this same thing, ]

[ oh good, it worked. tsukasa lifts his head to stare at ray, then slowly stands up and clears his throat. ]

...May I come in...? [ ts ] I'll explain inside... Promise.

[a pause—he's got to get used to talking cats—before he nods and steps back to let tsukasa inside.]

[ IT IS MUCH APPRECIATED, he'll hobble his way in carefully and find somewhere not too clothy to bleed. he doesn't want to stain anything, okay. ]

...Um, Shinobu-san and I [ cough- ] we checked out a teahouse, and things got a little out of hand. I went to the back and... There were spiders, so I freaked out and attacked them, and that caught someone's attention but he slipped and pulled a display case down--

[ coughcough. ahem. ]

I got caught under it.

[ and he. may. have used fire when attacking the spider so there Might be a teahouse out there in yamate that suffered a small fire. DO NOT JUDGE.

he's broken his little kitty leg and probably has a lot of bruising,
cuts from the glass display case... and he was right by the fire but that cough'll clear up eventually it's fine. ]

[he starts fetching supplies.]

[ HEY!! HE HAS CAT HEARING HE CAN HEAR THAT--

...Um, I might've set it on fire. I don't like touching bugs, so... [ you know he just lobbed a fucking fireball at them instead, as you do, ] They were by some papers... A few got away, but I definitely killed two of them at least.

I wasn't very helpful, but Shinobu-san seemed like she got something, at least. Ah, but it gave her a very bad headache, so she left me in your care while I bade her to go rest.

Why'd you go to the teahouse in the first place?

Not Sena-san. Beau-san checked it out with someone else and they got into some trouble with a snake demon, and she got hurt as a result... So Shinobu-san wished to follow up on him and his shady business, and I agreed to help. Beau-san and I are recently acquainted... [ he trails off, tail curled, and lays his head down. ] It was about time to be, since she's also Kano-san's friend.

[ there. good enough. ]

Thus, we journeyed there - Shinobu-san's too noticeable to get to the back without drawing attention, particularly after all the commotion last time, so she requested I sneak back there.

And then you found spiders.

Yes. Ah, there were papers too... But yes, I found spiders. They were the size of apples.

[ THEY WERE EXTREMELY TERRIFYING AND DESERVED TO DIE. also, a fun note for jan-jan, if ray gets any of tsukasa's blood on him he'll feel energized for a few hours!!! and since he is attending him medically this is an inevitability, have fun with that. ]

Shinobu-san has those though - I can't read. [ all cat or no cat, baby, we do not meowth this shit ] But it was something about the gods testing us... I already knew that though.
